Dot Mobi presentation
- No need to take notes on that one as figures were mainly macro-economic figures with lack of context.
- I disagree about their comment of Apple’s usability, good design of timesonline and interface with flash coding.
- createireland.ie only got 2/5 when passed through mobiready.com; I wonder if safari mobile browser had an impact on score.
- mobithinking.com, mobiforge.com and mobithinking.com for more info.
- No clear figure on mobile browsing figure from Irish users: between 50 to 80%. Amas might have clearer picture on this. Was told that iPhone + iTouch represent +50% of Irish mobile browsing…
Google Presentation
- Insight turned into action turned into efficiencies: that’s what google analytics gives you to inform business decisions
- Excel spreadsheet headers leading to profit/conversion: 1) keyword, 2) costs, 3) conversion, 4) cost/conversion, 5) conversion rate, 6) profit/conversion
- MIT experiment over 3 months led to 90% accuracy on mobile usage prediction! (predicted time of calls, prediction in receiver of calls, and lenght of calls)
- Display ads led +268% traffic from unique users and +365% engagement in page views
- Discrepancies between location of inbound traffic identified via Analytics; I need to move createireland.ie server to blacknight to remove any doubt
- Time spent on site and bounce rate seem to be key metrics to stick to.
- Multiple versions of sites can be tested in near real-time via analytics
- Video analytics launched today
- 15 hours of video/min uploaded onto youtube.com

- From 0 in Oct 06 to 250 MM subscribers by August 09!
- Average 25 min/user/day, 1-2 daily visit, 50% return daily, 70% outside US, above 35 fast growing segment.
- Facebook complement Google; FB is demand generation while GOO is demand fulfillment
- FB is engagement ads, FB pages, Connect
- Jolt, Joost, Muzu mentionned.
- Lean and mean start-ups doing apps can do well
- Good presenter; nice to put a local voice to FB
Web Development Seminar
- Missed first speaker because of lunch chat
- Eamon of Echolibre as 2nd speaker; good and simple
- Speaker from Irish Mortgage Brokers; top class case about overcoming reluctance of introducing web-based processes into a company. I loved the cockroach analogy and combined experiences of two guys having gone through two biggest busts of the decade (dot com + finance)
